"Il y a du soleil"
<Entry by Sean>
<Entry by Matthew>
Matthew and I decided to spend another
night in Paris, that way we did not have to rush. That meant that we had to leave
Paris very very early in order to avoid the horrible traffic. It was sorta weird to
see the names of places that I bicycled thru in 1990. Seeing the names of places
instantly would throw memories of what it looks like, etc. And, of course, the names
were going by at 140 kmh instead of at 20kmh. Along the way we had a sunrise!
Our first bit of sun since we started out!
It was a super early start that morning, we were up at 5:30am and
out on Le Perifique before 6. Paris was a lot of fun, and super interesting, but man, I
need some sunshine really bad. Heading South was going to be the only way to get it. Sean
drove the first couple of hours, and I slept then we tagged and I drove for a few hours.
The 1000km down to Cannes really flew by. The Peugeot is a diesel and is super economical,
plus the price of diesel is really good, about 4,2F/L.
Which was also cool. I was going 140kmh (~90mph) and other cars were flying by like
I was standing still! I am really enjoying driving here :-)
Since we left so early and drove so fast,
we arrived early in the south of France. In the vain hope of meeting some fashion
models, I wanted to stop by St. Tropez. I've seen/heard enough about the beaches,
and it was only a small detour. This is Matthew on the beach at St. Tropez.
One immediately notices the lack of fashion models :( Ah, well. It was a
beautiful beach and something that one should see in the summer, for sure. There was a lot of seaweed! It felt good to be standing on the same beach
where many beautiful women had parked their naked arses during the Summer ;-)
Well, we eventually left St. Tropez and
drove the coastal road to Cannes, where we met Octavia and Francois outside of the casino
near the harbor. Octavia is a German friend of mine, and Francois is French (in case
the name didn't give it away). We wandered around Cannes, and had a great dinner
together. The Old Ville of Cannes is very cool. We are staying at their
apartment, and this is the two of them on their patio overlooking Cannes. You will
have to imagine the city lights and full moon behind them.
