Chris' Yard
The following are some pictures of a switching layout that I am slowly working on.
After a number of years of wanting to get back into Model Railroading after being out
of it since highschool, I started with a fairly simple 2 foot by 8 foot switching layout
in HO gauge that I could also incorporate into a future layout as a yard.
The track plan is something I put together after looking at many magazines and track
planning books. I was torn between a design that could have a multi-level over-under
track plan and a trackplan that would get as much track down as possible. I chose the
later.
The construction is based on the classic L-girder design.
This picture shows the layout in an initial phase. The top surface is homosote on
cross braces. I'm working on track layout ideas.
This picture shows the layout after having laid and painted the track. The top surface
is now homosote glued to plywood. Instead of having cross braces supporting the
plywood/homosote top, I have two 4 foot boxes that can be taken off of the L-girders.
This allows for easier transportation of the layout. Also did some work on the legs bracing.
Here is a top view of the track plan. Not very good image quality but it gives you an idea.
Here is another top view of the track plan. Hopefully, after ballasting the track, the pictures
will be easier to make out.
I hope you liked it. I will try and update this site with more pictures and commentary
as I work on the layout.
