Cairo at night as seen from the top of the Cairo Tower. The water you see is the Nile, the lifeblood of Egypt.
Our very own backdoor find! A great restaurant down a small side street that makes scrumptious grilled chicken.
A smelly stand at the open market of Khan El Khalilly. Although very famous, it's now overrun with tourist traps and not worth the visit.
A 200 seat airbus flew just seven of us to Hurgada. How does the company stay in business? Needless to say, the service was great!.
Kris and I relaxing in the sun of our Red Sea Resort. Our fellow vacationers labeled us "the Americans" as the resort was full of Italians and no one else spoke English.
The dive boat took us to this beautiful dive site. The coral gardens were amazing and the visibility was about 60 feet.
View of the central room of the Cairo Museum. It could take you a week to see everything in here.
An illegal photo of the mummy room in the Cairo Museum! Kris was so sick that day, the mummy looks healthier than he did.
The headdress of King Tut Ankh Amon's mummy, made of solid gold & detailed with precious and semi-precious stones.
One of the three gold coffins of King Tut Ankh Amon in the Cairo Museum. It is made of 450 pounds of gold!
This was the boat that took us on our Nile Cruise. This was a wonderful experience and we highly recommend it!
BBQ on board our Nile Cruise.(Sun Boat II).Later would be a cake to celebrate Tricia's birthday!
The huge Temple of Ramses in Abu Simbel. Originally, the temple sat where the Nile river now runs, since the High Dam was built in Aswan, and was carved out of a single piece of rock.
t
The front has four colossal statues of Ramses, each measuring 20 meters high, and four meters from ear to ear. To understand how big this is, notice Tricia standing next to the ear and forehead of a fallen statue!
Kris and I in front of the granite quarry in Aswan where an enormous unfinished obelisk still remains from thousands of years ago.
This stone quarry has an obelisk that would have been 41 meters high and weighed 1267 tons!! While they were cutting it, however, it developed huge cracks and had to be abandoned.
A close up of a huge carving on one of the pylons at Philae. In person, you can tell that she has been defaced by early Christians.
Kris standing tall in front of the amazing Colossi of Memnon in Luxor.
Temple at Kom Ombo built to honor the crocodile god Sebek.
A mummified baby crocodile worshipped by ancient Egyptians. Ew gross!!
The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut in Luxor. Notice that we are the only peope here, thanks to arriving at 6 am. This is the site where the militants opened fire and killed all those tourists in November. Luckily, we were there in March.
Doesn't everyone look silly in their "authentic" Egyptian costumes? Of course Kris looks handsome in his purple outfit.
It's Tricia's Birthday! They brought her a cake, but made her dance before blowing out the candles.
All the friends we made on our cruise (minus one family who snubbed us for a balloon ride). From left to right: Emile, Alan, Maria, Kris, Tricia, Sean, Jackie, Johann and Nicolene.
Kris and his camel head to the pyramids. Too bad for his rear end that we were in a hurry and the camel ran all the way.
No caption needed here.
Tricia stands at the entrance to the smallest of the 3 pyramids at Giza.
Yet another illegal photo taken inside the pyramid. Kris should really learn to follow instructions.
Out to dinner with Nabil and his daughter Rania.(Special thanks to them for all their help!)
Our last day in Egypt. Kris samples the local treats.
