Where did the wedding taking place?

The wedding and the reception are being held at a reception facility called Events at Pier 70.

Pier 70 is located at the North end of the Seattle waterfront, just South of Myrtle Edwards Park, across from the Northern end of the waterfront trolley line and The Old Spaghetti Factory. The street address is 2815 Alaskan Way, Seattle. Pier-One Imports is also in the building.

If you enter the main doors, walk straight (west) until you see the reception facility on your left. The Events at Pier 70 reception facility is located at the South-West corner of the Pier, on the ground floor, across from the Spirit of Seattle tour-boat boarding area.

Who made the cake?

Rick Saada, master baker, internationally renowned dessert chef, (and groomsman) made the wedding cake.
Check out his website for a look at some of his previous dessert triumphs.

We are very pleased and honoured that Rick went to all this effort for our wedding. You should check out his account of the trials and tribulations of baking the cake.

How did David and Linda Meet?

David and Linda first met in 1992 while working in the Workgroup Division at Microsoft. David was the Development Lead and Linda was the Product Planner/Marketer on the Microsoft Electronic Forms Designer product (a.k.a Calvin).

Later, they both worked on Schedule+ 7.0 (a.k.a. Boomerang), until Linda left Microsoft due to tendinitis from a Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) from prolonged keyboard and mouse use. At this point, Linda began hiking with Rick and Gemini Saada who were also good friends of David, and had also recently left Microsoft. The three hikers would torture David with invitations to go hiking while he was stuck at work shipping various releases of Exchange, Office'95 and Windows'95.

David did manage to go on some hikes however, and once Linda wasn't working on his team, he began to see her in a different light...(sunlight :-) ...and they soon began to go out (Oct '94). About 15 months later (Jan 1996) they were engaged to be married and eventually, the date was set for Feb 22, 1997.

Who performed the ceremony?

We were both very pleased to have the Rev. Dr. Deborah Hart B.P.H.E., M.Div., D.Min. come out to Seattle to visit us and perform the wedding ceremony. Deb is a minister with the United Church of Canada at Royal York United Church (David's home church) in Toronto, Canada.

Will the sun be in our eyes? Will it be dark?

We believe that the answer to both questions (weather permitting) will be no. (at least we hope not)
Thanks to our friend Hans Spiller, who used a cool shareware product called Astronomy Lab 2, we analysed the astronomical circumstances for the time of the wedding - 22 Feb 1997 1730hrs PST .

Time Event Description
1744 hrs Sunset
1820 hrs Civil Twilight Ends Top of sun hits horizon to center of sun 6 degrees below horizon. Afterwards, can't read without artificial light.
1856 hrs Nautical Twilight Ends Center of sun 12 degrees below horizon. Horizon is still visible, but brightest stars are out.
1931 hrs Astronomical Twilight Ends Center 18 degrees below horizon. after this, it is dark enough for astronomical work

The Olympic Mountains rise above the horizon, so the sun will have 'set' prior to the calculated time.
Also, if the cloud cover doesn't obscure it, there will be a full moon.
