Background

These images have been scanned from the original documents, which are part of a small collection of historical 'newspapers' dating from 1588 to the present day. Each of these papers provides an account of a famous historical event. These scans are best viewed on a 1024x768 pixel display.

I only scanned papers from 1588 to 1666 which are on a fairly high quality, non-acid (rag) stock. The papers in the collection that date from the 1700's are acid based, and are becoming very brittle. Further, they are of a larger size that does not fit readily on my flatbed scanner. If anyone has any advice or experience to share to help me slow or stop the decay of these documents, please email me at: .

Note: This site is evolving. Eventually all pages will be available. Also, I may add text-versions of the content of these documents if I can find OCR software capable of handling these images.
